Hello, my name is Kathi Winter, and I have been HIV positive for 11 years. I’m a member of Saddleback Church, where I serve as co-leader of our HIV/AIDS support group. My ministry is to talk about HIV, and to educate, empower, and support anyone affected or infected with this disease.

"My prayer for you who contacted this Web site today is that God will grant you peace and calmness in the light of confusion in spite of this disease’s attack on your heart and spirit. I know how scary it is when you are newly infected, and the enemy so wants us to fear and hide and isolate. But God’s love is powerful and available to overcome shame and guilt and fear of rejection. I ask right now, Lord, that you help each of us to accept the love that we can from others and to give it out whenever possible.

I pray also, Lord, that you'll show us, with wisdom and clarity, what direction you are to take to fulfill God’s purpose in having this disease in our lives. I ask God to shower you with self-forgiveness and the courage to reach out and ask for his help, and for his love to empower you right now with spiritual strength.

Like a ‘David and Goliath’ scenario, we are the Davids using God’s Word to fight the Goliaths of shame and guilt. Let us go to the Bible for our resources and know that we are never, never alone.

Lord, if whoever I am talking to right now isn’t involved in a local church, please help them find a purpose driven church that will accept them and love them and support them and be open to their needs. Please, Lord, bring into their lives strong believers who will remove misconceptions about the disease.

Thank you, Jesus, for the victory over the Enemy’s plans to harm us and to make us feel that God isn’t near. We are so blessed to have you as our Lord and Savior, and we thank you, Father, for your healing grace.

Lastly, I pray against the loneliness and feeling of being infectious that so invades our minds when we are dealing with HIV. Let us bond together under the strong name of Jesus to find ways to heal our hearts and to be strong in relationship with other believers.

So, thank you for calling and praying this prayer with me, or for dialing up. It is a blessing to be in communication with Christian brothers and sisters where there is true care and concern for those like me who choose to live with HIV. May you all have a long and blessed life."
