A man suffering from both AIDS and leukemia underwent a unique and risky stem cell transplant in Germany to treat the leukemia, and it left him with absolutely NO TRACE of HIV in his body. Imagine if you were one of the visionaries that helped invent an entirely new way of making healthcare accessible to billions. You have that opportunity today! With the widest distribution and the largest volunteer base, the network of millions of local churches around the world is best positioned to revolutionize healthcare, making it both accessible and affordable to those who have never enjoyed it. You are alive at a historic moment. You get to be a pioneer. Will you chose to risk it all?
Affectionately called the “the land of a thousand hills” and sometimes described as the “land of a thousand smiles,” Rwanda, is renowned for its gently rolling hills and abundant wildlife. About the size of Maryland, it is the most densely populated country in Africa and is landlocked with few natural resources and minimal industry.
Rwanda is among the 10 countries in Africa that is most severely affected by HIV/AIDS. In addition there are only 200 doctors to serve the entire nation. Resources are limited and the number of orphans and vulnerable children are increasing due to HIV/AIDS.
Although there are multiple obstacles, the goal of the Western Rwanda HIV/AIDS Healthcare Initiative is to dramatically increase access to quality healthcare in Western Rwanda by forming unique partnerships, thus promoting healthier lives, preserving families, protecting children, and building stronger communities.
This will be accomplished by: training local churches in primary health care, increasing the infrastructure of the community health system, increasing the capacity of existing health care providers, expanding the care delivery to include expert HIV services, linking the community health and hospital care systems together, developing church-based health care solutions and delivery systems, and maximizing health care delivery by using church members.
This Initiative has many unique deliverables including a new distribution channel to increase access to care. The Initiative will redesign the existing medical system to link the churches, hospitals, and community clinics together to increase access to healthcare. In addition the acrostic C.H.U.R.C.H. has been created to describe the HIV/AIDS care that will be provided by the local Kibuye churches:
C are for, support, and comfort the sick
H andle testing and counseling (Volunteer Testing and Counseling-VTC)
U nleash volunteers
R emoving stigma
C hampion healthy behavior
H elp with medication
The solution for the healthcare issues in the world are local churches forming both public and private partnerships. The Initiative has several unique characteristics that differentiate it form other healthcare plans such as: church congregation mobilization, indigenous leadership and local relationships, extensive collaboration, expert implementers and extensive experience, proven methods, as well as scalable and reproducible models. There are churches all over the world with passion and a mandate to care for the sick. Imagine if you helped start transforming healthcare by training pastors and churches around the world how to use the gifts they have and partner with others to provide world class care for the sick.
