Letter from Kay
Welcome to the HIV/AIDS Caring Community. If this is your first time to visit the site – dig in! There are more than three years’ of archived articles, interviews, feature stories, plus up-to-the minute news releases, downloadable resources, and links to other sites that offer further information on particular topics.
This month features the first of two major reports on the 17th International AIDS Conference and Ecumenical Pre-Conference held in Mexico City. As far as we know, Saddleback Church was the ONLY local church at the conference with eleven representatives. There were hundreds of relief organizations, denominations, scientists, physicians, researchers and PLWHA (people living with HIV/AIDS) represented, but just a handful of local churches, including Willow Creek Community Church. The International AIDS Conference was a daunting event, filled with detailed technical information, complex scientific formulas, energetic activists and persuasive advocates for attitudes and behaviors that are frequently in opposition to biblical standards. Holding firmly to God’s standards and yet opening our arms wide to embrace all those created in His image is never ending challenge.
One of the “firsts” for the 17th Conference was a long overdue plenary session on the welfare of children – in 23 years, there has never been a plenary dedicated to children! Finally, voices are being raised on behalf of the little ones who are orphaned or HIV+ who cannot speak for themselves.
Read this issue thoroughly and come back in September for a more complete report and analysis of the IAC in Mexico City.
Warmly, Kay
P.S. Check out the article on my book, Dangerous Surrender: What happens when you say yes to God, and visit www.kaywarren.com for messages, music and downloads that will enhance your reading experience.

Dangerous Surrender: What happens when you say yes to God
Surrender. It is not an inviting concept, is it? Yielding. Relinquishing. Our very nature resists these concepts.
Intimacy with God. Now that is far more appealing. Don’t we all long for a deeper personal experience of God’s presence? Read more >> |
